Professional Associations for Tax and Finance Professionals
American Institute of Certified Public Accountants: Founded in 1887 with nearly 400,000 members in 128 countries, AICPA members work in business and industry, public practices, the government, education and also include students. The AICPA develops and grades the uniform CPA examination and sets the stringent ethical standards that CPAs are held to. It also sets American auditing standards for the audits of private and public companies, non-profit organizations, and all levels of government.
National Association of Tax Professionals: The largest nonprofit organization that serves individuals specializing in tax preparation. NATP members work at offices that assist over 12 million people worldwide with U.S. tax preparation and planning. The average NATP member has been in the tax business for over 20 years and holds a tax/financial designation and/or a college degree.
Formed in 1979, NATP’s member base includes individual tax preparers, enrolled agents, certified public accountants, accountants, attorneys and financial planners. The national headquarters, located in Appleton, WI, employs over 55 professionals.
National Association of Black Accountants: In December 1969, nine African-Americans met in New York City to discuss the unique challenges and limited opportunities they faced in the accounting profession. In that year, there were only 136 African-American Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) out of a total of 100,000 in the United States.
Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting: ALPFA is the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting. ALPFA is a national nonprofit membership organization for Latino business professionals and students. ALPFA is dedicated to enhancing opportunities for Latinos in business, accounting, finance and related professions. We are dedicated and committed to empowering and developing Latino men and woman into leaders of character for the nation in every sector of the American and global economies. Today our members of 23,000 professionals and students can be found working hard in our 42 professional and 130 student chapters across the United States and Puerto Rico.
National Society of Compliance Professionals: A nonprofit, membership organization dedicated to serving and supporting compliance officials in the financial services industry. NSCP is for compliance, by compliance – it is our mission to provide professional resources to U.S. and Canadian financial services professionals through our unequaled network of peers, professional education, regulatory interaction and professional standards.
New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants: One of the largest state accounting organizations in the nation with more than 28,000 members. It was incorporated in 1897 to cultivate, promote, and disseminate knowledge and information concerning certified public accountants, to establish and maintain high standards of integrity, honor, and character among certified public accountants; to furnish information regarding accountancy and the practice and methods thereof to its members and the general public; and to protect the interests of its members and the general public with respect to the practice of accountancy.
